The Countdown – this week in movie news

‘Avengers: Endgame’, Jim Jarmusch, ‘Killing Eve’ and more…

  1. Avenge the fallen… It’s just under a month now until Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas – and the Marvel promotional train is at full speed. This week, the Disney-owned outfit assembled 32 (yes, 32) character posters for fans to dissect. Crammed with Easter eggs, the new artwork revealed much, including Shuri’s demise at the hands of Thanos. T’Challa’s sister failed to survive the Snap, as did 15 other characters whose posters were rendered in depressing greyscale. The remaining 16, including Iron Man, Thor and Cap, get the full technicolour treatment. As if that will help them…
  2. Scary monsters (and super creeps)… Watch out, Lionsgate have revealed some stomach-turning new artwork for Guillermo del Toro-produced horror-adaptation Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Based on the anthology series written by Alvin Schwartz, the film features a set of creepy as fuck monsters including the Pale Lady, who takes centre stage in the brand new artwork. The Del Toro-produced fright fest hits the multiplex on 9 August.
  3. The greatest zombie cast ever disassembled Welcome back to zombie land, horror buffs. Jim Jarmusch has dreamed up another gore-filled classic for you to digest. The Dead Don’t Die is slated for 14 June and boasts an all-star cast. Confirmed so far are Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Iggy Pop, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits and Danny Glover. Plot details remain buried deep, but you can still get your fix of flesh-eating crazies via the wacky new trailer.
  4. Old tricks… Just in time for the end of Fleabag, Phoebe Waller Bridge’s other award-winning series is returning to screens. Killing Eve season 2 revealed its latest trailer this week and it contains quite a few answers fans have been pining for. Set 36 seconds after the end of season 1, Eve is back on the trail of Villanelle, who’s seemingly recovered from a stab to the gut. Put 14 April in your diaries.
  5. BumLyf4Eva… Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers) is back at it again. Her latest seaside-set dalliance, The Beach Bum, is running a voicemail promotion as part of its marketing strategy. Call 1-844-BUM-LIFE for your daily dose of Moondog wisdom. The Beach Bum is yet to acquire a UK release but surfs into cinemas soon…
